As we approached the end of 2024, our Senior Defense Associate, Leonard Kosinski, Lt General, U.S. Air Force (Ret), was involved in two key events shaping U.S.-Japan-South Korea relations and security in the Indo-Pacific.

"I was honored to be the keynote speaker at the 2024 RIIPA International Security Symposium in Kansai (RIISK 6, Part 2). This year's theme was 'The New JPN-US-ROK Nexus amid a Rapidly Changing Security Environment: Expanding the Spirit of Camp David into the Indo-Pacific Region,'” said Leonard J. Kosinski.

The symposium aimed to strengthen the US-Japan and US-South Korea alliances, shifting East Asia towards a more multinational security framework. The US-Japan-South Korea alliance was central, with these nations possessing the region’s most formidable military capabilities. A key issue for this alliance was likely to be a crisis in the Taiwan Straits. Despite potential synergies between Japan and South Korea, mistrust remained, benefiting China and Russia—countries seeking to alter the global order. The symposium emphasized the need to deepen regional cooperation to address these challenges.

As a newly nominated USJC member, Leonard Kosinski joined the USJC (U.S.-Japan Council) annual conference in Tokyo. This conference brought together leaders across government, business, academia, and nonprofits to examine the evolving U.S.-Japan relationship and global challenges.

The theme was “Forging Our Future Together: The New Era of U.S.-Japan Relations,” with a focus on leadership in security, sustainability, innovation, and economic security. Discussions also centered on empowering women, building a global workforce, and ensuring economic resilience in the face of global uncertainty.

The event featured leadership programs, networking opportunities, public symposia, and roundtable sessions on GX, DX, and AI innovation at Deloitte Tohmatsu Innovation Park. We look forward to sharing insights from these engagements and to working with all stakeholders to forge stronger, more resilient alliances in the years ahead.
